Killaghtee Festival 2023

Parking

Parking is available opposite the Church in Bruckless and at The Mart (F94 P227) in Central Dunkineely.

​

Restricted parking available at the Bruckless Community Centre.

Help us celebrate our local community, amenities and heritage at and around Killaghtee.

​

Everyone is invited to join us for free events, local celebrations, walks, talks and trips in the area! 

​

Some events may move to Community Centres, subject to weather conditions.

Boat Trip

Once again we are offering a boat trip for just €15

(plus €1 online booking fee).

​

Taking place at 6pm on Sunday 27th August, leaving from Killybegs, the tour will once again head out to St. John’s Point for some fantastic views of Killaghtee and the surrounding area.

​

Due to tides, we have moved this year’s launch to Killybegs, and will be using the bigger boat of Atlantic Coastal Cruises. The trip will be 2 hours long, with entertainment, refreshments and bar. 

​

Picnic in the Park

Join us on Saturday 26th August from 1pm, for a Picnic in the Park.

​

Bring your own sandwich and a blanket, sit back and enjoy.

Joining us on stage will be young local musicians, singers and dancers, and we kick off with an open mic at 2pm.

​

Main acts are on 3pm to 5pm.

We have a bouncy castle, Art in the Park, walking tours

and more. All free.

Scones and tea will also be available from 3pm, for a small charge.

Craft Market

On Sunday 27th August Dunkineely Main Street

will be turned into a craft market*

​

From 10am to 2pm, take a stroll along the street, and check out some of Donegal's finest local crafts people, specialising in artisan food, drinks, art, jewellery and more.

​

*Even bad weather cannot stop our fun. The event will move to Dunkineely Community Centre if needed. 

Heritage Treasure Trail

Starting from Dunkineely Picnic Area.

​

Pick up your first clue between 11am and 12:30pm.

€5 per car.

​

Join in on a treasure hunt for little adventurers and big alike.

Travel around local heritage sites, exploring history and the stunning views of St. John's Point, while working out clues for your next hunt.

Can you win the prize?

Art in the Park

Heather returns to the Killaghtee Festival for another two sessions of interactive art.

​

Everyone will be invited to add their own portrait to our “Community Wall” at the Bruckless Community and Sports Centre.

​

This free activity is suitable for all ages and experience.

​

Last year Heather helped the community build the Whale of Time, an amazing piece of art, unique to the Festival. This year you and I are invited to be part of the art itself.

 

Don’t miss out.

Bruckless Bay Walking Tour

Come and discover more about the heritage, environment, myths and legends of the Bay. Learn about the special features of Donegal Bay, it’s rivers, mountains and the sea.

 

How the Bay was formed and how it has changed over time. We will also be talking about the local environment and efforts under way to protect and conserve the area for future generations and manage change. 

 

Join Keith Corcoran (storyteller, tour guide and preserver of legends, folklore and ancient knowledge) and Jimmy McVeigh (Community Water Officer) for what promises to be an educational, but fun tour."

 

Meet at Bruckless Community Park and walk down to paradise pier.

Fossils of St. John's Point

Take a walk with local Michael Cunningham and find out about the fossils that are present along St. John's Point. See what fossils you can find too!

 

This walking tour will traverse rocks, so sensible footwear must be worn and children must be accompanied.

 

Michael has led several projects in the area on heritage, both natural and historic, and is a popular speaker on a range of subjects."

The History of St John’s Point

Meet at one of St. John’s Points greatest treasures and learn about the history and legends of the area and Donegal.

​

Learn about McSwyne’s Castle, soon to be gone forever, the Old Killaghtee Church being conserved for the future. With talks from local historian Michael Cunningham and tales from Keith Corcoran, teller of legends and folklore.

​

Meet at McSwyne’s Castle Carpark.

Fancy Dress

Our fancy dress competition is for 0 to 10 year olds.

 

Taking place on the opening night in central Dunkineely at 7:00pm!

There will be prizes for:

Sports Day

A free event, just for kids.

​

A sports day blitz, being held by

Dunkineely Celtic Football Club.

​

Come down to Bruckless Community Park for lots of fun. 

Wheelbarrow, 3-Legged and Egg & Spoon Races, Tug of War, Penalty Kicks and more for all ages.

Yoga and Sound Baths

As last year we have a range of free relaxation events, to help you wash away your cares.

​

New this year we have a Gong Bath on Sunday. 

Allow Marrielle and the gongs to take you on a dreamy sound journey.

​

We also have the return of Rosabella with dawn yoga, yoga in the park and her amazing soundbath. Will people brave the cold atlantic sea after dawn yoga, as they did last year!

All on the Saturday.

​

Just take your mat, pillow and blankie.

The Minertones

Live on Main Street Dunkineely.

​

Join us outside St. Mary's Hall in the centre of Dunkineely for live music.

80s, 90s, Jive, Rock, Funk and more.

​

This promises to be a fun night for all.

​

Followed by more live music in the local pubs.
